I am not sure what is worse: that this nice bungalow was topped to look like a McDonald's back in the 60's or that it was almost completely demolished last year to convert it into a farm house in a neighborhood dominated by bungalows and Arts& Crafts homes. 

Bungling a Bungalow: Step One

In order to bungle a bungalow, the first obvious step is to find a bungalow. Finding one that has some historic significance increases your "bungling factor". Finding one that fits very nicely in a neighborhood of like bungalows increases you bungling factor even more!

Now that you have your bungalow, it is time to get started.

Step one: remove the roof. 

Keeping the home open to the elements so that it might maximize the rain and moisture infiltration is also key.

In order to accentuate the stained glass windows on the original home, they chose something for the addition that would be a thoughtful counterpoint.

Wide Load

Did a suburban ranch home fall on this bungalow?

At first glance, it looks a bit "smothered" but, then again, the combination of the vinyl siding and that broad roof line is comforting. The color also seems to add an indescribable "something" to the composition.

Crooked Eyebrow

Stick this kind of dormer on your average home and it might look odd. Stick it on a Chicago Style bungalow and a little bit of magic starts to happen.
